And now, a word from Alex Segura...

Good morning, citizens of Blackstone! The Dusk series creator Alex Segura wanted to say hi to all of you and thank you for the tremendous project launch. Catch you on the other side with a sneak peek at something cool coming your way shortly!

Take it away, Alex...

"Wow! What a first day, huh?

We cracked $14k - thirty six percent of our total goal - in less than 24 hours. That’s a testament to you all, the backers who believe in this project. Really thankful for that. It’s nice to see that our idea, to create a comic book superhero that doesn’t just punch his way out of a problem, really resonated. And we’re just getting started!

If we’re lucky enough to get funded, we’ll use this platform to keep you all up to date on our progress and show some cool teaser art as we move along with the project. But I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself - a lot happened yesterday!

First off, we got some nice love from Kickstarter! They tabbed THE DUSK a “Project We Love,” which was very cool to see on launch. Not to mention nice press at places like BOING BOING, COMIC BOOK RESOURCES, THE BEAT, SKTCHD’s OFF PANEL podcast, and POP OFF.

In terms of what’s next - we have some cool art reveals coming in the next days and weeks, including pieces from folks like Greg Smallwood, George Kambadais, Dean Haspiel, Liana Kangas, and more. Stay tuned...

It was also great to hear from everyone in terms of support, feedback, and ideas. If you’ve ever run a Kickstarter, you know that once the train leaves the station it’s tough to tweak things, but we’re listening and working on making sure this project is everything we hope it can be, and makes it to the finish line so we can all enjoy the story. Keep the ideas and feedback coming!

I’ve been backing Kickstarters for years, and I’m always amazed by the great content that springs out of the platform, so I wanted to take a minute to plug a few ongoing campaigns that could use your support!

HELLBOY’S CREATOR MIKE MIGNOLA: A DOCUMENTARY FILM, spearheaded by my good pal Jim Demonakos, has more than blown past its funding goal with a week to go, but don’t let that dissuade you. The team is unveiling new stuff each day, and this looks to be an essential, must-watch documentary for fans of Mignola and his amazing creations, like Hellboy!

THE DANCER #1 - A PSYCHOLOGICAL MARTIAL ARTS THRILLER, by talented writer and reporter Kat Calamia, is a beautifully illustrated comic book that spotlights the beauty and brutality of dance and martial arts. So it has a bit of something for everyone! They’re also fully funded, so you’ll be guaranteed to get your copy - plus some cool perks she’s rolling out in the remaining 22 days.

SEX AND VIOLENCE #3, a 64-page adult graphic novel by Jimmy Palmiotti and an amazing crew of creators that include Amanda Conner, Justin Gray, Gilbert Hernandez, Elsa Charretier, Frank Frazetta, and more, is also in the win column - with tons of cool tiers and options to choose from, including ways to catch up on past PaperFilms publications. It’s hard to pass up this kind of talent, so don’t sleep on this campaign.

GARDENER by Matt Emmons is our Kickstarter twin, launching yesterday and destroying their $15k funding goal. The book, a space western about self-acceptance and survival on a failed colony planet, looks stunning and I can’t wait to get my copy. The campaign is really well done, and I’m excited to see what other stuff they reveal in the remaining days!

SfSx: TERMS OF SERVICE is the cyberpunk thriller we’ve all been waiting for, with a jaw-droopingly beautiful Tula Lotay cover that you’d be hard-pressed to ignore. Funny, erotic, loaded with sci-fi and cyberpunk noir, SfSx is the kind of challenging sci-fi story we need more of, from a creative team loaded with talent and pals.

Thanks again and talk soon!"

Alex Segura

Thanks, Alex, for bringing some very worthwhile projects to our attention.  Check 'em out when you can, there's tons of good stuff out there.

To begin week two (next Tuesday for those keeping score), we'll be adding a new reward for new backers, or as an add on for those of you that have got in on the ground floor. Before we let you go, we wanted to share a piece of PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN ART that will be a part of this new tier.

We'll let you guys guess what we're up to, here in Blackstone City...

Thank you for a really exciting first day but remember, we're not there yet. Please share The Dusk on your social media and help us get closer to the goal!
